Spiritual importance of Akshaya Tritiya

Akshaya Tritiya is a very popular festival that the Hindus and Jains celebrate every year.


The Akshaya Trithiya day is revered by all in India and it is a significant day for a number of reasons.


Akshaya Tritiya is considered as the most golden day of the year because the word Akshaya means the most "Eternal" that which never diminishes.


It is believed that starting any good work on Akshaya Tritiya bears fruitful results. It is the only day in a year when the sun and the moon are simultaneously at their peak of brightness.


As per the Indian traditions, it is the ideal day to perform sacred deeds. On this day one should do charity. If you donate a few things (like helping the poor by giving food, vegetables, fruits, clothes, etc.) on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya, you can attain long life, wealth and prosperity. Nowadays, people believe that buying Gold Jewellery and Gold Coins on Akshaya Trithiya will bring good fortune to their life.


Scriptures say that God Vishnu incarnated as Parashurama on this day, Ganges descended on earth this day, Veda Vyasa along with God Vinayaka started the composition of Mahabharata on this day.


The most popular legend associated with Akshaya Tritiya is that of Sudama (Kuchela) visiting Lord Krishna with the hope of solving his poverty. On his visit, Sudama offered God Krishna the only thing he had at that time - a handful of rice. The moment Krishna tasted it, Sudama became rich overnight.
